Following the news becomes more interesting. Many people underestimate Facebook’s advertising manager, and now it is accused of “information and consulting services” thanks to which Trump won the elections in 2016.

Alexander Kogan, an employee of Cambridge Analytica that has worked with Facebook for many years, illegally transferred the data of registered users that were used for the study of the FB audience and creating its psychological portrait in the application thisisyourdigitallife to the third parties.

The scheme was very simple: when registering users agree to processing of their data from a profile and a list of friends (this agreement still saves both the organization and Facebook from serious charges). This cannot be called a “data leakage” because the organization did not collect confidential information but only the information that was openly accessible. As a result, information on 50 million users of social networks was collected!

Cambridge Analytica CEO Alexander Nix stated that he is ready to retire if this will help save the company.

“Participation in the elections leads to polarization: you win elections for such a candidate as (US President Donald) Trump, and 100 million people turn away from you, so you become a devil,” said Knicks.

Facebook will check those who order political advertising.

Later the British Channel 4 published materials according to which the company interfered in elections campaigns around the world.

Electric cars will soon have more recharging options

More people are switching to electric cars, and soon they’ll be able to drive from Buffalo to Albany without having to get off to recharge.

New car owner, Steve Blake couldn’t wait to drive his new Chevy Volt off the dealer lot.

“I’ve been researching them for a long time because I think it ‘s the future,” said Blake.

And he’s not alone, Governor Andrew Cuomo wants to install 10,000 electric vehicle fast charging stations along the thruway, some of which can fully charge a car in less than 30 minutes.

Victor Chevrolet sales consultant, Doug Beck said this is one more incentive for buyers to consider electric vehicles, especially with gas prices on the rise.

“The vehicle gets 238 miles so you can pretty much drive the entire thruway without having to stop more than once, you get a whole trip in,” Beck said.

By the end of 2018, there will be 3,000 charging stations across New York State. This entire project will cost $4.2 million.

Through the state’s drive clean rebate program, people with newly bought or leased hybrids can get a $2,000.00 rebate.

General Motors Still Awaits Permit To Test Self-Driving Cars In New York

General Motors announced last year it would begin testing its self-driving cars in New York City—a major change from sunny California and Arizona. However, the city of New York has reportedly dragged its feet and hasn’t issued a permit yet.

According to a Jalopnik report last Thursday, there’s been zero movement on the city’s part. The original announcement between GM and the state of New York called for an early-2018 deployment of the self-driving cars. As a reminder, we’re now in the middle of May and quickly approaching the half-way mark of 2018.

The delays could have something to do with the NYC mayor Bill de Blasio’s opposition to robo taxis operating on the city’s streets.

“The Mayor has strenuously opposed this pilot on heavily traveled lower Manhattan streets,” said Seth Stein, a spokesman for the mayor’s office.

Stein’s statement added the state should “stop” GM’s plans immediately.

General Motors and Cruise Automation have continuously tested its self-driving cars, the Cruise AV, in California and Arizona. Tests in those states provide rather ideal conditions for autonomous-driving technology with clear skies, a lack of rain, and warm temperatures. New York City will likely prove a much more challenging locale.

GM has reportedly mapped a “significant” portion of NYC since the automaker announced plans to bring the Cruise AV to the Big Apple. Previously, just five square miles of the city had been mapped.

The automaker hopes to commercialize self-driving cars sometime in 2019.

Mobile devices’ security

mobile devices’ security

According to the analysis of the last quarter of 2017, the percentage of people surfing the web via a mobile device has increased up to 84%, while the sales of tablets and notebooks have grown by 23%. Mobility, portability, Internet accessibility and speed of the device are the main priorities. Therefore, the mobile devices market is growing very fast.

But there is a huge gap in the development of portable devices development: security. If we are talking about personal computers, then the security of the devices and all the data on them is quite developed. And it’s an undeniable fact that with the increase in the number of portable devices’ users, security is the main factor that needs to be thought about.

The security of corporate data is as relevant as the personal security. Allowing an employee to use a mobile device both for personal purposes and for work greatly affects the security of corporate data. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a new global concept, a technology that is growing at a high rate in the US and allows the employees to use their own devices at work. Many financial institutions, small and medium business enterprises, need a guarantee that their data will be protected.

Many companies develop their own applications to ensure security of their data. However, creating local programs is very costly. BYOD policy and VPN protection is an incentive to improve the security of mobile devices.

At the moment, the most popular operating systems in the market are IOS, Android, Microsoft and Blackberry. Speaking about Android, thousands of devices are activated every day. There are quite low-cost models of the devices using Android OS, and their popularity is increasing.

According to many experts, software for the security of mobile devices will become even more important. And many companies have already started working on such software. The leader will be a company which offers the product that will satisfy everybody. We will find out who this will be in the next couple of years.
