Jennifer Lopez Forced to End New York City Concert Early Due to Massive Power Outage

The Big Apple went dark Saturday night, and for those at Madison Square Garden that meant no Jennifer Lopez.

The songstress had only just started her show when a massive power outage swept across New York City, spelling an early end to her show as the theater was evacuated.

Lopez took to Instagram to share a message with her fans and explain that the show had been canceled due to the unforeseeable circumstances.

“The power is out in NYC and at MSG. Heartbroken to say tonight’s show is cancelled. We will reschedule. Love you all!!! Stay safe!” Lopez captioned the clip.

“We had just started our show,” the singer explained in the video. “They’re asking everybody to evacuate, very slowly and calmly, and obviously that’s what were going to have to do.”
Lopez later posted a second message expressing her disappointment over not getting the chance to perform for her many excited fans.

“Devastated and heartbroken that I can’t perform for all of you tonight. We will make this up to you, I promise! I love you!!” Lopez shared.

Gayle King, who was in attendance at Lopez’s Madison Square Garden concert when the blackout occurred, shared two videos to her Instagram. The first showed a bit of the entertainer’s performance, and the second focused on the aftermath of the incident and the confused audience.

“Uhhh yeah so I actually made it to @jlo concert and then what had happened ‘wuz’ swipe left… now wondering the streets in an Uber trying to find a hotel room,” King captioned the slideshow. “My apt has NO power and I live on the 27th floor … funny thought my place had a back up generator …”

The arena later tweeted confirming the news of the cancellations and plans to reschedule.

“Due to power outage issues in parts of Manhattan, which included Madison Square Garden, tonight’s Jennifer Lopez show was forced to end early. We will follow up with tickets buyers to tonight’s show with more information as soon as we have it,” Madison Square Garden tweeted hours after the incident.

The black out, which police reportedly believe was started by a transformer fire, swept the west side of Manhattan and left over 73,000 people without power, according to NBC New York. Power is currently being restored, but many residents remain in the dark.

Coincidentally, the blackout occurred on the anniversary of the infamous 1977 New York City blackout, which led to mass chaos in the city.

Lopez’s show has been rescheduled for Monday, July 15 at 8 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden.

Special 25th anniversary Friends pop-up opening in New York City

It’s hard to believe, but 25 years ago this September the first episode of Friends aired.

And if you feel like this milestone deserves some sort of celebration, you’re not alone. The folks over at Superfly, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and Warner Bros. Television Group have teamed up to create a month-long, immersive pop-up Friends experience. The pop-up, which also includes a retail store, is set to run Sept. 7 through Oct. 6 in New York City.

The nostalgia-packed space (see the layout below) will offer fans the opportunity to explore the show and capture photos with set re-creations, props, and costumes from the series (and yes, a re-created Central Perk will be involved). Stick a turkey on your head, peek through Rachel and Monica’s purple door, relax on Chandler and Joey’s recliner after playing some foosball, help Ross with the infamous sofa pivot, or look through Phoebe’s favorite things.

The pop-up experience will be open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Attendees can reserve a time slot to visit the pop-up with a ticket priced at $29.50. However, the first day of the experience, Sept. 7, will be dedicated exclusively to AT&T customers who have a chance to get complimentary tickets through the AT&T THANKS appreciation program.

Tickets for the event will go on sale Friday, August 2 at www.friends25popup.com.

Netflix stock plummets after massive subscriber miss

Netflix (NFLX) has passed the 150 million subscribers mark, but the streaming giant missed the forecast for new memberships.

The company added 2.7 million new subscribers in the second quarter of 2019, according to its latest earnings report released Wednesday. That is just over half of 5 million new subscribers that analysts were expecting.

Netflix now has 151.5 million subscribers globally.
The service said it expects to add another 7 million subscribers in the next quarter.

Profit in the second quarter of 2019 fell to $271 million from $384 million in the first quarter of last year. Revenue went up 26% to $4.9 billion. Netflix’s stock plunged 12% in after hours trading.
“We don’t believe competition was a factor since there wasn’t a material change in the competitive landscape during Q2, and competitive intensity and our penetration is varied across regions,” Netflix said. “Rather, we think Q2’s content slate drove less growth in paid net adds than we anticipated.”

Still, it’s hard to ignore the competition looming over Netflix. Big Tech and Big Media, with their deep pockets and even deeper libraries, are entering the market to topple Netflix from its spot on the streaming throne. And some are taking with them the licensed shows that are popular among Netflix subscribers.

The biggest threat to Netflix’s reign may be Disney (DIS), which will debut Disney+ on November 12 in North America. The new service will be brimming with some of the company’s most popular content including multiple showsfrom Marvel Studios, the company’s superhero studio that has made more than $22 billion at the worldwide box office, and an original “Star Wars” series called “The Mandalorian.”

Disney+’s most alluring aspect may not be its library, but rather its price. At $6.99 a month, it is half of what Netflix charges for its standard plan. Disney has estimated the service could bring in 60 million to 90 million subscribers by the end of fiscal year 2024.

Apple, NBCUniversal and AT&T (T)’s WarnerMedia, the parent company of CNN, are all set to premiere new services of their own in the next year.
WarnerMedia announced earlier this month that its new streaming service HBO Max will likely hit the market with “10,000 hours of premium content.”

That includes a library of TV shows and films from the likes of director and writer Greg Berlanti and Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, who will produce at least two films. HBO Max will also be the only place to stream “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “Pretty Little Liars” and most notably “Friends.” There is no word yet on how much all that will cost subscribers.
“Friends,” which will be added to the service next year, is owned by WarnerMedia’s TV studio and has been licensed to Netflix for years. Making “Friends” exclusive to HBO Max is a big deal because it’s one of the most watched shows in TV history and was one of the most beloved titles on Netflix in recent years.

But Netflix subscribers aren’t just losing their “Friends,” they’re also losing their friends from “The Office.” NBCUniversal announced last month that it has secured the exclusive domestic streaming rights for all nine seasons of “The Office,” which means fans of Jim and Pam will have to sign up for NBC Universal’s streaming service next year to see if they end up together.
The series, which debuted on NBC in 2005, was streamed for about 52 billion minutes in 2018, according to data referenced by NBC in its news release last month.

Still, Netflix has an enviable head start with subscribers. It’s also home to many hit original shows and movies that will make it a must-have subscription for TV lovers.
“Stranger Things,” which debuted its third season on the Fourth of July holiday weekend, attracted 26.4 million unique viewers in the first four days of its release in the US, according to Nielsen data. It was “the most watched Netflix original series we’ve ever analyzed,” according to the viewership data company.

The streaming company added a record 9.6 million new subscribers in the first quarter of 2019. It has 148.8 million subscribers globally, 60.2 million of whom are from the United States.

Barbie Goes Glam Rock to Honor David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust

BARBIE has been many things over the years. Now, she’s dressed as Ziggy Stardust.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s iconic “Space Oddity,” Barbie overseers at Mattel released a collectible version of the doll dressed as Ziggy Stardust, one of his most beloved alter egos.

Barbie wears the metallic Ziggy space suit with red and blue stripes, flared shoulders and cherry red platform boots. Mattel spared no makeup, featuring the astral sphere smack in the middle of Ziggy Barbie’s forehead. The doll’s hair is fiery red.

The $50, limited edition doll was created in collaboration with The David Bowie Archive.

The beloved rocker died in 2016 after battling cancer. He was 69.
